Buxton Garden Trail
The people of Buxton open their gardens to the public over the second weekend in June.
The Philosopher’s Dome
A Harry Potter Convention at the Devonshire Dome in June which started in 2017.
A show like no other! A bi-annual expo for the quarrying, minerals, constructions and recycling community held within Hillhead Quarry. Held every two years at the end of June.
Buxton Spa Prize
An annual open arts competition exhibited during July at the Green Man Gallery. It celebrates the town’s culture, natural beauty and heritage and aims to develop the town as an internationally-recognised centre for visual arts. With a main prize of £5000, the Buxton Spa Prize has become popular since its inception in 2014. It is for artists working in any 2D media (except photography) and includes the Buxton (adult), Teen and Children Spa Prizes and the Harold Riley Sketchbook Prize for artists submitting a single sketchbook completed during the past year. It opens for entry in April with registration typically taking place during early May and the submission deadline towards the end of June.
The Derbyshire Open
County-wide, open art competition exhibited at the Buxton Museum & Art Gallery throughout July.
Bonfire Night & Fireworks
Annual fireworks display and bonfire at The Park (cricket ground) at the beginning of November. Organised by Buxton Lions.
A parade of Buxton folk with lanterns through the town to celebrate Christmas at the beginning of December. Organised by Buxton Sparkles.
Santa visits Buxton every weekend in December and receives visitors in Poole’s Cavern.
Buxton Spring Fair
An annual celebration throughout Buxton on May Day featuring food and drink stalls, exhibitions, dance and music, craft stalls, children’s activities, climbing walls, petting zoo, circus skills and much, much, much more. The day where all community groups and businesses come together and put on a show throughout the town. This is the day to be in Buxton! Initially a Buxton Town Team initiative; now organised by the Buxton Spring Fair Organisation.
Summer Fair & Charity Bazaar
Charity and community groups come together for a day of summery fun at the Pavilion Gardens. Raffles, cake stalls, children’s activities, music performances and handwriting competition are regular features. First Saturday in June, free entry. Organised by the Rotary Club of Buxton.
Buxton in Bloom & Flowerpot People Trail
Throughout the town throughout the summer. Look out for the flowerpot people!
Buxton Art Trail
The biannual Buxton Art Trail aims to boost and promote the visual arts during Buxton’s festival season and offers a rare opportunity to meet local artists and craftspeople, discuss their work and, in some cases, watch demonstrations. It takes place during the middle weekend of the Buxton Festival Fringe in July. For more information, visit their trail website.
Buxton Day of Dance
A day of dance by local, traditional folk dancers and morris men in the third week of July. Organised by Chapel Morris Men.
Buxton Pride Picnic
A picnic in the Pavilion Gardens to celebrate the LGBT+ community in the third week of July.
Grand Bazaar & Christmas Lights Switch On
The annual switching on of Buxton’s winter lights, usually by a star of the upcoming pantomime, at the end of November in the Pavilion Gardens along with late night shopping at the Grand Bazaar.
You’ll find pantos at the Buxton Opera House in December and a local panto by Buxton Drama League at Burbage Institute in the New Year. Oh no you won’t! Oh yes you will!
