High Peak Bookstore & Cafe

High Peak Bookstore & Café occupies an ideal location in the heart of the Peak District in Derbyshire, within easy reach of Buxton, Ashbourne, Bakewell and Matlock, and close to the numerous attractions offered by the Peak District and Staffordshire Moorlands. With 5,000 square feet of book-buying heaven and an excellent café, it’s hardly surprising we’re a Derbyshire destination for many on our own merit.

Book lovers will enjoy browsing through our many and varied book sections, from architecture to zoology, offering an extensive and eclectic range of fiction and non-fiction titles, many of which are less than half-price. We have a dedicated children’s room with a great selection for children of all ages.

Additionally we sell traditional and contemporary greeting cards; music – with a selection of blues, jazz, classical, folk and big band CDs; even birdfeeders and food for our feathered friends.

The café is a great place to relax and enjoy. Throughout the day we serve freshly ground coffee, an excellent range of loose-leaf teas, complemented by a range of light meals, cakes and snacks. Our new kitchen, open between midday and 4pm (3.30pm on Sundays), serves delicious lunches including paninis, sandwiches, soups, quiche and salad. The emphasis is very much on ‘home-made’, including our own pesto, dressings, and warming soups.

To complement our hot and cold drinks, choose from a range of scrumptious treats including cakes and cookies – also served all day. The refreshing soft drinks we sell offer a twist on the traditional, such as cola, lemonade, milkshakes and fruit juice.

High Peak Bookstore and Café is open seven days a week. The café closes half-an-hour before the bookstore. We have a large-free car park, and dogs are welcome. You’ll find us on the A515 Ashbourne Road outside of Buxton.
