The Annual Buxton Antiques Fair

The Annual Buxton Antiques Fair, which takes place in mid-May, is one of the most prestigious events of the year in the antiques calendar. In 2009, after 44 years, the fair was acquired by Cooper Events and given a new lease of life. Organiser, Sue Ede, has modernised the event, introducing a range of 20th century and decorative pieces to the established range of traditional antiques and fine art. The fair now attracts collectors and anyone with an interest in art and antiques from across the midlands, northwest and north of England.

Says Sue: ‘The Buxton Fair has always been one of the highlights of the spring season for the whole of the UK art and antiques market. In the past few years we have brought in a number of new specialist exhibitors that have added an extra dimension to the wide range of art and antiques for sale’.

The professionally stand-fitted fair takes visitors on a tour of fine art and professional craft making. Prices range from £20 to more than £50,000 for the finest pieces.

Art and antiques specialists from across the country take part, showing everything from fine 18th, 19th and 20th century paintings and sculpture to Mid-Century Modern and decorative pieces. Fine furniture is always on sale and abundance of both fine oak and country furniture and townhouse pieces are always a main attraction. Whatever your preferred period and style, from Georgian, Regency, Victorian, Arts & Crafts to Edwardian, the fair will provide a selection of pieces. Collectables have always been very popular, from fine silver, and bronzes to pottery, porcelain and glassware from across the world. Jewellery is a major attraction with specialists showing selected pieces from the past 300 years.

Situated in the Octagon overlooking the famous Pavilion Gardens and just a few minutes from the town centre, the fair provides another important reason to visit Buxton and the Peak District.
