Buxton is a wonderful place to live and work, to grow up and grow old. Whatever your age or stage of life, you’ll find a warm welcome here.

Named as one of the best places to live in the UK by the Sunday Times in 2018 and again in 2024, Buxton has also been a finalist in the Academy of Urbanism’s Great Town Award. There is a wealth of community groups with which to get involved, plus sports and social clubs to suit any interest. Learn more about the town here.

Buxton’s local authority is the High Peak Borough Council (HPBC). The county authority is Derbyshire County Council (DCC). Derbyshire is part of the East Midlands region (but we get North West news!). Click the link for more useful information.

With its central location, it is a great base for commuting around the region – there are seven towns and cities within an hour’s drive – and it is only 45-minutes from Manchester Airport. See our travel page for more information. And of course, we are in the middle of the beautiful Peak District.
