Buxton Carnival Day 2019
This year’s Buxton Carnival takes place on Saturday 13 July.
See the programme for the day below. Please note timings are approximate and subject to change. Town centre roads will close from 1.30pm so ensure you are here in plenty of time!
Programme
10am – James Mellors Carnival Fun Fair on the Market Place opens. Until 11pm.
10.30am – Launch of the Pavilion Gardens boating lake! There will be six rowing boats and six pedalos which allow up to four people. Tickets can be purchased from the Lakeside Hut. The boating lake will be fully open from Saturday 20 July throughout the summer. T&Cs apply.
1.45pm – Buxton Carnival 4 road race organised by Buxton & District Athletic Club and now dedicated to the memory of Buxton AC’s former junior Thomas Theyer. Starting from New Wye Street just ahead of the procession.
2pm – Buxton Carnival parade led by the 2019 Buxton Well Dressing Queen and accompanied by her Rosebud and Retinue featuring floats, carriages and walking groups. Please give generously to the collectors! It will follow its usual route from Buxton Station down Station Road towards Sylvan car park, up Spring Gardens, right along Terrace Road passed Cavendish Circus, left along St John’s Road and down Burlington Road, up West Road to the High Street and then along the Market Place finishing at the bottom of Terrace Road, by the Crescent about 4pm.
4.15pm – Parade of the Queens in the Pavilion Gardens
4.30pm – Buxton Lions Duck Race along the River Wye in the Pavilion Gardens
4.30pm – free, live Carnival Concert featuring local bands in the Pavilion Gardens. Until 7pm.

Saturday Buxton Market on the Market Place, events in the Buxton International Festival and Festival Fringe, art exhibitions (click here for an overview), live music gigs (see below – click here for the full July listing), St Anne’s Church Flower Festival, the Buxton Flowerpot Trail – pick up a map from the Buxton Visitor Centre or The Green Man Gallery, drifting at Buxton Raceway and a weekend bazaar at the Pavilion Gardens.
