British Singer-Songwriter Rumer to Perform at BIF 2025 – book now!

Buxton International Festival is delighted to announce that British singer-songwriter, Rumer, will perform in Buxton Opera House for one night only as part of this summer’s festival (10-27 July) jazz programme. The Brit Award nominee will present her triple Platinum debut album, Seasons of My Soul, on Sunday 20 July at 8pm.

Since Rumer’s first album, Seasons Of My Soul, landed in the Top 3 of the UK Albums Charts in 2010, it’s achieved Platinum sales status and garnered her a MOJO Award for Best Breakthrough Act as well as two BRIT Award nominations. The British singer-songwriter has gone on to forge an acclaimed career both as a highly regarded songwriter, penning global hits such as ‘Slow’ and ‘Aretha,’ and also a peerless interpreter of the work of others, as evidenced on her follow-up album Boys Don’t Cry – an album of classic covers from the 1970s – plus Rumer Sings Bacharach at Christmas and This Girl’s in Love: A Bacharach and David Songbook.

Opera
In 2024, Buxton staged five new operas in four days and was nominated for an International Opera Award. 2025 sees a yet more impressive plans with another five opera productions including: Ambroise Thomas’ Hamlet, conducted by Adrian Kelly with the Orchestra of Opera North; a double bill of Leonard Bernstein’s Trouble in Taihiti and Francis Poulenc’s La Voix Humaine, a Buxton International Festival and Norwich Theatre production; Opera Zuid production of Mozart’s The Impresario; and La Descente d’Orphée aux Enfers, a Vache Baroque production.
Also discover innovation in opera with four brand new ‘shorts’: 20-minute works by talented composers Jasper Dommett, Martin Green, Thanda Gumede and Carmel Smickersgill.
Classical Music
Daily performances from world-class artists including Steven Hough, Imogen Cooper, Benjamin Grosvenor, The Tallis Scholars, English Concert, Simon Keenlyside, and Dame Sarah Connolly.
Book Talks
33 engaging book talks featuring speakers such as Diane Abbott MP, Baroness Lola Young, Petroc Trelawny, Ben Macintyre, and Jonathan Sumption.
Jazz
Jazz Weekender tickets offer 12 world-class gigs varying from jazz, blues, funk and Latin, plus an Oscar Peterson extravaganza. Stand-out artists include Ineza, Graham Clark Quartet, Emily Masser Quartet, Trio JDM, Baiana, Alan Barnes with an all-star band, Dean Stockdale Quartet, Emma Rawicz Quartet and Xhosa Cole Quartet.
