Buxton Sparkles Lantern Parade
Community Group, Buxton Sparkles, organise a lantern parade at the end of November, usually with a theme linked to the pantomime at Buxton Opera House, to help get the town into the festive spirit.
Lantern-making workshops take place in the weeks leading up to the parade and then residents and visitors come together to walk through the town and sing carols, usually ending with the Christmas Lights Switch On.
After a break in 2024, the Lantern Parade is back for 2025.

The parade takes place on Saturday 22 November 2025.
Making Workshops
Free lantern-making workshops for this year’s parade are to take place on:
- Saturday 15 November 2025, 10am-12.30pm at The Pump Room.
- Wednesday 19 November 2025, 6pm-8pm at The Pump Room.
Full instructions and materials are provided. It takes about half an hour. For all ages. Children must be accompanied. No need to book.
Parade
Join the parade at 5pm from The Pump Room on Saturday 22 November 2025. It will finish at Turner’s Memorial at 7pm in time for the winter lights switch-on.
