The Pavilion Gardens

The Pavilion Gardens is a Grade II-listed, historic venue which superbly shows off the Victorian splendour of Buxton. Situated in the heart of the spa town, it is a beautiful example of the heritage that runs throughout the town. A venue that is truly a place for all the family to visit. We offer 23 acres of gardens to explore with a boating lake, miniature train, play areas, fountains and wildlife to see.

Managed by Parkwood Leisure (since February 2019), new investments have seen exciting developments of the building complex, promenade and gardens.

Its unique personality and characteristics provide the ideal backdrop for private bookings, packages for weddings and special occasions, conferences and meetings and festivals.

The Building Complex & Promenade

The main building, open daily* offers a Winter Conservatory with botanical garden and fishpond, flower shop, retail area, art gallery, a cinema in the Pavilion Arts Centre and the amazing Octagon Hall which houses all our large events. There are also several different areas for refreshments: the Ice Cream Parlour, Pavilion Kitchen and Restaurant & Bar as well the Coffee Van, Kiosk and pop up outlets on the promenade.

Events in the Octagon Hall include a range of fairs and exhibitions, monthly afternoon tea dances, inflatables, dining experiences, shows and concerts and private events such as weddings and award nights. 

The complex also hosts the Discover Buxton Tours booking office opposite the main entrance off the promenade (open most mornings April to September).

A Changing Places toilet is available in the building, opposite the Ice Cream Parlour, along with other toilets near the restaurant and opposite the Pavilion Arts Centre.

Only registered guide dogs are welcome in the building.

On the promenade, find plentiful seating and beautiful views across the river, bandstand and bridges – a great place for a sit down. Amusements and rides are often present during the summer season. For information about the Buxton Swimming & Fitness Centre click here.

The Gardens

The gardens feature lakes, flower beds, shaded walks and a bandstand. And for the young at heart, there is an extensive children’s play-park, adventure playground, outdoor gym, miniature railway and boating lake. There is also a car park and the Buxton Swimming and Fitness Centre situated in the northwest corner.

Tickets for the rowing boats and pedalos on the boating lake can be purchased at the Lakeside Kiosk. Available on weekends and school holidays subject to weather.

Local brass bands play on the Don Redfern Memorial Bandstand on Sunday afternoons and Bank Holiday Mondays throughout the summer season between March and September. Performances typically 2pm-4pm.

Dogs on leads are welcome in the gardens.
