Golf
Buxton has plenty to keep golf enthusiasts entertained including two golf courses which both welcome visitors.
It is also a great base from which to explore the many other courses in the Peak District and surrounding area – zoom out on the map below to see their locations.
Buxton & High Peak Golf Club
Dating back to 1887, the course has been likened to an inland links course with the 4th, 5th and 6th holes proving the point. The golf course offers outstanding views of the Peak District just one mile from the centre of the town. It is based on free-draining limestone and is one of the most consistently playable in the area. Often influenced by the prevailing wind, the 5,993-yard, par 69 course presents members and visitors with a challenging and enjoyable test of golf. There is something to suit everyone from the seasoned veteran to the aspiring young golfer. Open competitions take place from May to October.

Cavendish Golf Club
Rated a Top 100 course, the Cavendish offers something special to golfers. Opened in 1925, at the request of the 9th Duke of Devonshire after whose family it is named, the Cavendish is recognised as one of the finest golf courses in Britain, offering a great golfing experience. Designed by Alister MacKenzie, this is where he developed and honed his outstanding course design skills and is the course which inspired the magnificent Augusta National, which won him international acclaim, in association with Bobby Jones. It is thought by some to be Dr MacKenzie’s most accomplished work in the UK and possibly the best layout in the world under 6000 yards. It illustrates how skillfully and creatively he blended the layout into the surrounding landscape. There are open competitions from April to September.
