Long Weekend / Three Day Suggested Itinerary
Pack all this in on a three-day visit to the town. Change the order as the weather permits!
Day 1: Active Day
Start your visit with a Discover Buxton tram or walking tour and get to know the town. Their guides will help you get your bearings, give you an overview of the town, answer any questions you may have and take you to see the magnificent Devonshire Dome among other places. In the afternoon, head to Go Ape! for a high-ropes adventure in the Buxton Country Park, then take a walk through lovely Grin Low Woods, along the sculpture trails up to Solomon’s Temple for a great view of the town – a lovely spot to watch the sunset. In the evening, catch a live music gig in one of the many pubs and bars in town. Friday night is a great night for live music in Buxton. Check out the monthly listing in the news page to see who is playing where.
Day 2: Rainy Day (it is Buxton!)
Visit the Buxton Museum & Art Gallery (closed Mondays) and the Green Man Gallery to see their latest exhibitions or explore the many floors of Scrivener’s second hand book shop. In the afternoon, head to Poole’s Cavern for a walk underground. In the evening, watch opera, theatre or music at the stunning Buxton Opera House and experience the heart of town.
Day 3: Shop & Drop Day
Explore the wonderful shops in the Cavendish Arcade, head down Spring Gardens to The Arches (Thurs-Sun) and the weekend fairs and markets at the Pavilion Gardens and on the Buxton Market (Tuesdays and Saturdays). In the afternoon, drop on The Slopes opposite The Crescent or, if it’s a summer Sunday afternoon, head to the Pavilion Gardens promenade and listen to the brass band on the bandstand while enjoying an ice cream. On your last night, why not head to Buxton Cinema and catch the latest release.
