*Turn right out of the car park to the T junction and left at the next T junction. This leads to the A 624 Chapel road. Turn right on to the A624 taking care as it is a busy road. Take the next left into Hayfield town Centre. Immediately after the river bridge take the first right then keep right as the road bends.
• Alternative start adding approx 2 miles. Take the Sett Valley trail from the car park heading towards New Mills. Head through two gates until you reach the third which brings you to Spinnerbotom. Turn right on this road and after 50m head right up a steeply cobbled path. Continue up this path through the gate until the road is reached. Turn right on the road to the T junction and turn right into Hayfield town centre. Just before the river bridge turn left keeping right as the road bends.
Follow this road up to Kinder reservoir gates passing straight through on to the bridleway.
At the top of this path you will come to a lodge, take the gate to the left which heads up a steep cobbled climb.
As the climb flattens turn sharp left going slightly back on yourself and steeply uphill. This is a very challenging climb and few make it to the top without touching down. Pass through the gateway and head up to the cross roads.
You are going straight across the cross roads but if its good weather its worth looking back here as you can see some fantastic views and appreciate just how far you have climbed.
Go across the moor and the bridge with the shooting cabin to your right. You will stay on this path for some time now it’s a fantastic but very demanding descent so please be careful.
At the bottom of the descent ford the river (or take the bridge) and head for the gate at the road on your left. Turn right on this road the A624 and it will lead you back through Little Hayfield to Hayfield and the start at the Visitors centre which is clearly signposted.
