Buxton Triathlon: Sunday 15th June

The Buxton Triathlon is back for 2014 and takes place on Sunday 15th June 2014, with the scenic spa town and the surrounding Peak District offering a beautiful background to the event.

This popular pool based sprint distance triathlon is aimed at triathletes of all levels and it is a great event for novices to sign up to. The majority of the 200 available race places are sold and anyone who wishes to take part should go to www.xtramileevents.comand sign up as soon as possible.

The Buxton Triathlon is based at the Buxton Swimming and Fitness Centre in Buxton’s Pavilion Gardens and takes in some of the finest scenery of the Peak District and Goyt Valley. The race kicks off with a 400m swim in the Buxton Pool, and the 21km cycle leg is a spectacular tour of the Peak District countryside taking in Long Hill and the Ranger’s Track up the Goyt Valley before a thrilling descent into Buxton from the Cat & Fiddle. The 5km run takes the athletes around the leafy streets of Buxton with the race’s finish line in the beautiful Pavilion Gardens. The competitors start in waves, with the first wave scheduled for 7 am.

Terry Greenwood won the men’s race in 2012 and 2013, and Hannah Peel claimed the women’s title last year.

Event costs are £42 for individual entries or £55 for relay team entries, including numbered racking, electronic chip timing and an excellent goody bag. The prize giving takes place after the event, with prizes awarded in the following categories: overall winners (male and female), male and female age groups, relay team prize, club prize (first 3 athletes from the same club) and novice prize.
