UNDER-30s can attend any event at this summer’s Buxton Festival for just £5.

From July 9 – 27 the beautiful Peak District spa town will host top class opera, concerts, recitals and literary speakers.

More than 100 arts events will take place over the Festival and all of these are now accessible to young people thanks to the £5 initiative launched by the Festival’s chairman Dame Janet Smith two years ago.

Glyn Foley, Buxton Festival Chief Executive said:

‘The ‘Festival for a Fiver’ offer was designed to open new doors for students and young people who have never tried opera before because they’ve been put off by the price. The offer has proved popular so far, and we really hope more people will give it a try this year as we’d love to welcome new audiences to the Festival in 2011.’

Now in its 33rd year, the Festival has a long history of producing rare opera in-house, gaining a national reputation for excellence. Its literary series offers a unique insight into the lives of more than 30 speakers from novelists and politicians to academics. The Festival’s extensive range of concerts includes a world music series spanning four continents.

All seats are available to under-30s for £5 from June 1, including top price opera tickets, usually £57, subject to availability.

Book at Buxton Opera House on 0845 12 72 190. These tickets cannot be purchased online. Proof of age required.

The Festival for a Fiver scheme is sponsored by Manchester Airports Group.
